FAQ's to Aquion Battery Storage

Aquion Batteries FAQ’S

NuVision Energy are pleased to offer the Aquion battery; using its Aqueous Hybrid Ion (AH ᵀᴹ) technology it is a salt water based battery that is clean and non-hazardous for use in domestic and commercial energy storage. The S line battery delivers unmatched

combination of performance, safety and environmental sustainability in a cost effective battery platform. With 2kW of storage per block it makes a flexible and expandable system

To aid your understanding of this product we have devised a quick guide to the Aquion Battery Range

What is Aqueos Ion Technology

Aqueous Hybrid Ion (AHI™) chemistry is a patented technology. Aquion’s Aspen batteries are sealed electrochemical energy storage systems based on a unique saltwater electrolyte. Unlike flow batteries, lithium ion batteries, and lead acid batteries, Aspen batteries are made using abundant, nontoxic materials and modern low cost manufacturing techniques. Saltwater batteries are maintenance-free and optimized for daily deep cycling.

Which batteries options are available?

Aquion offer both domestic and commercial batteries.

The domestic model is known as the Aspen 48s-2.2 Battery and has a 2.2kWh capacity which can be expanded in a modular system a typicla domestic system would require up to 4 batteries.

The commercial model is known as the Aspen 48M-25.9 is a palletised battery with a 25.9kWh capacity. Being palletised means that users can easily move the battery to alternative locations

The cycle life of the batteries?

The Aspen 48s 2.2 has a life of 3000 cycles to 70% retained capacity

The Aspen 48M-25.9 has a life of 3000 cycles to 70% retained capacity

Applications

The batteries can be used for home and commercial storage. They are most suited to installations where power is drawn over a long period of time. They can also be used in off-grid solutions. Aquion batteries can withstand a greater temperature range from other batteries -5 to +40 operating temperatures allows them to be installed in more extreme environments the lithium or led batteries

Warranty

The warranty is an 8 year limited warranty. The first 5 years are at full warranty and the subsequent 3 years are on a prorated basis.

Certifications

The Aquions are CE marked and UL recognized. They are IP certified at IP22.

They are also the only storage product cradle to cradle certified at bronze level which means the products and materials have been assessed for safety to human and environmental health, design for future use cycles, and sustainable manufacturing.

The Components that make the Aquion Batteries

What kind of charger is required?

The Aquion batteries will work with most standard 48V lead-acid battery chargers provided the charge parameters can be specified. For example, they work well with the Victron Energy MultiPlus and Quattro chargers. The Aquion batteries operate on a 3 stage charge profile similar to lead acid batteries.

Do I need a battery manager?

The Aquion batteries are designed to work without a battery manager saving cost. For commercial applications where you need to precisely monitor the batteries there is an optional battery monitor available.

What size are the batteries?

The Aspen 48S-2.2 battery measures 330 x 310mm x 935mm (w, d, h) and it weighs 118kg.

How much power do they provide?

The Aspen 48S-2.2 battery will provide 1kW of peak power.

The commercial Aspen 48M-25.9 battery offers 11.7kW of peak power.

Can I use the Aquion batteries on a boat or vehicle?

No, the Aquion batteries are designed for stationary applications such as domestic and commercial energy storage.
