The Optimise PV immersion controller

What do the LEDs mean?

The Red and Yellow LEDs come on at the wrong time?

This usually happens if the current sensor is back to front, try reversing the sensor.

The current sensor is installed around the live wire (or the neutral wire) on the grid tails. If it is on the live wire, then the arrow should point to the grid, if it is on the neutral then the arrow must point away from the grid.

  • Isolate the PV system - the system is importing power and the Red LED should be flashing
  • Switch on the PV system and switch off the loads - the system is exporting power and the Yellow LED should be flashing
  • Switch on the PV system & press the "Boost" button - the system is diverting power and if it is equilibrium then the Red LED and Yellow LED are flashing

The Green LED is always on?

The Green LED indicates that the immersion heater is not drawing any power. If the immersion is working normally then it means it is up to temperature, however if the Green LED comes on straight away and stays on then it could indicate a faulty immersion heater. There are a few things to check:

  • Is the immersion switched on and working normally?
  • Is the immersion thermostat turned up?
  • Check the wiring between the Optimise PV and the immersion heater.

Where should I install the current sensor?

The current sensor must be connected around the incoming live wire, before the PV system and consumer unit.
