To aid your understanding of the NuVision Boiler Energy Saver, we have put together a quick 'question and answer' piece of the most commonly posed questions.

This article will address how the NuVision boiler energy saver makes a boiler more efficient and how the energy savings are achieved. Additionally, we also answer questions on compatibility and the differences between the boiler energy saver and the energy saver plus.

When selling or buying any product it is important to understand exactly what you are selling and how the it benefits the customer. Here we go through a number of the most commonly asked questions of ourselves and the answers so you can address your customer with confidence.

Why would I install the NuVision Boiler Energy Saver?

Most boilers installed in the last 20 years operate on a simple thermostat basis, but boilers can suffer from boiler short cycling, boiler saturation and temperature overshoot issues. The Nuvision boiler controller helps eliminate these issues.

There are some boilers now on the market that come with the boiler controller technology built in, but these tend to be the more expensive boilers on the market.

What is boiler cycling, temperature overshoot and boiler saturation and how does the boiler energy saver prevent this?

Boiler short cycling is when the boiler is constantly switching on and off and is a result of the thermostat measuring a small proportion of the water in one position in the boiler.

The NuVision Boiler Energy Saver saves you money is by monitoring the water temperature in the flow and return pipework and predicting the rise and fall of the temperature allowing the boiler to be run for longer and switched off for longer periods.

Most boilers waste energy due to temperature overshoot. When the boiler fires, heat builds up in the lower part of the boiler. However as the boiler thermostat is usually positioned at the top of the boiler, there is a delay in the thermostat detecting the rising temperature. When the thermostat is finally up to temperature and switches the boiler off, heat continues to rise in the boiler causing it to overshoot the thermostat setting. As a result the boiler overheats on each cycle which wastes fuel.

The NuVision Boiler Energy Saver prevents temperature overshoot by controlling the flow and return which gives very accurate control and switches the boiler off at the correct temperature.

Boiler Saturation is the result of temperature overshoot which results in the boiler running much hotter than the required temperature due to heat build build-up within the boiler and slow reaction of the thermostat.

NuVisions boiler energy saver eliminates this by again monitoring the flow and return and switching the boiler off when at the correct temperature.

Which Boilers are the NuVision Boiler Energy Saver units compatible with?

The NuVision Energy Saver is compatible with most domestic boilers including combis, condensing and system boilers using natural gas oil or LPG.

Are there different models of Boiler Energy Saver and how do I know which one is right for me?

There are two models, the NuVision boiler Energy Saver and the NuVision Boiler Energy Saver Plus. The difference between the two is the Energy Saver Plus has an external temperature sensor.

Most boilers only require the Energy Saver but you can make some additional savings by installing the plus model.

The NuVision Energy Saver plus is a must for combi boilers, as the boilers direct heating of the domestic hot water prevents any savings on this side but an Energy Saver plus installed on the heating side of the boiler allows the NuVision Energy Saver Plus to takes into account the external air temperature and will make savings by reducing the operating temperature on warm days.

How does the boiler controller work?

The boiler controller works through using data from sensors on the flow and return to analysis the waters temperature and with its intelligent logarithm technology. The boiler controller is wired directly into the boilers thermostat and uses this information to control the thermostat and create your energy savings. The existing thermostat in the boiler is not removed- just raised above the operating temperature of the the NuVision Energy Saver.
